Hello Everybody!!

Sadly, today It’s my last post and I will write about this subject, my experience with the blog, how I can improve my English and my future in relation to this language.

Well, in relation to my experience in the blog this year, I think I need to incorporate more words to my vocabulary, because I am repeating very much some words and I should learn more synonyms to overcome that problem. There was a big trouble with the blog, due to some blogs were the same than the last year, that is boring to us because we wrote almost the same.

There are a lot of aspects I have to improve in my English, for example in the videos, It’s very hard to me to talk in front of a camera, in those moments I feel very nervous and  embarrassed, so I forget what I was suppose to say. I think I need to improve my pronunciation, because people sometimes can’t understand what I am saying and talk a little bit louder. I think the only way to improve this it’s talking and practicing, so that is what I will do.

Nowadays, I don’t use very much my English. Three years ago, we had a minimarket in my house and sometimes, some foreigners come to buy some things and I could practice my pronunciation. In the winter, I go to ski and there are a lot of people who are foreigners and sometimes I can talk to them, It’s hard to understand them because they talk too fast, but I feel I can communicate with them.

In the future I would like to study abroad, so I could improve a lot my English.

Post 9: 2014 Have you had a good year?

Hello Everyone!

Today I’m going   to write about good and bad things of this year and in general in my life.

Well, I think that I am a happy person, although all the bad things that have happened to me, and I’m really grateful for the family I have. It’s really hard to write about just one thing, so I will write in general.

If I have to speak about bad things, I would mention the year 2002, that was a terrible year for me, because I lost my grandfather first and after my mother. But, all the things happen for  reason, now I’m living with my uncle and my grandmother, and I always have received a lot of love from them, and that is the best thing that have happened to me.

In relation to this year, I think that is a good year so far, I have improve a lot as a student, I’m a little bit less lazy and I more sociable person.

I’m very happy because this year I started to practice volleyball again with my friends after two years, I missed that a lot, I met again with friends I didn’t see a long time ago.

I think I still have to do a lot of things, like pass Math and all of my subjects with good marks and two other things I will not write here, because It’s embarrassing to me  hahaha.

My grandmother will have an eye surgery and my uncle has ankle problems, so I hope everything goes well.

Post 8: Let's talk about money

Hello Guys

Today I’m gonna write about a important thing in my life, sadly, the Money.

I’m not happy to admit it, but I consider that money has a big influence in my routine. Sadly, in our society, you can’t do anything without the money; I’m not saying that I wouldn’t be happy without money, but we live in a material world, to survive in this world you must have some money. So, money It’s very important to assure the well-being of my family, we need money to go to the doctor, or to buy food, to go to our jobs or the school, and many other things.

Well, in financial terms, I´m a very independent person, to do all the things I do, I use my own money. For example, go to the cinema with my friends, or buy books, or buy clothes, go to concerts, etc. I tried not to ask too much money to my family, because they have a lot of things to pay, like the electricity or the water, and I feel bad asking them for money.

I think I manage my budget very well, because I don’t waste the money and I use it for good things. And, when I get to the end of the month I have money to save to the future, in case my family or me need it, or to buy something more expensive.

If I were a millionaire, I would invest some money in my house, because in some aspects, It’s not finished yet, I we would need a lot of money to improve it. Also, I would like to travel around the world, but first I would like to across all the territory of Chile, because I think It’s a beautiful country. Besides, I would like to invest a lot of money in our family enterprise.

If I had to pawn any of my belongings, I don’t know which one It would be, because I don’t think my belongings have a great value to other people.

How Green Are You?

Hi Everybody!

Today I will write a very important topic nowadays, but unfortunately many people like me still can’t incorporated into their lives: Environmentally friendly practices.

Well, I must confess that I haven’t acquire these practices to my daily activities, and neither do my family, because It’s something difficult to do, you always find an excuse for not do that kind of practices. For example, in some places, there are special trashcans for each material: plastic, glass or paper, etc. But, sometimes they are too far away, and we are too lazy to go and throw the trash there. Or another example, when you have to go to a near place, you can get there cycling, but there is always an excuse like It’s a hot or cool day, I’m too tired, etc. So, you go driving a car or in public transport. 

Well, at least I can say that I use my bike as a transport, mostly to get to near places, or walking, because I always enjoy a good walk. 

I’m not a member of any organization now, maybe because I’m not enough motivated and I don’t have much time.

 I would like to start recycling things. 

In relation to the carbon footprint, I try to turn off the lights I’m not using, disconnect all the electronic devises no one is using, take quick showers, etc. 

I think that, as a society, we could create more green areas, create more deposits of recycled trash, reduce the number of vehicles, and also we should reduce the number of industries in our city.

Breaking News! :O

Hello Everybody

Today I'm going to write about a new I watched on the T.V. yesterday, I think, well, I’m not even pretty sure if I watched the new in the T.V. or I saw it online, but I´m sure I saw it somewhere, someday. An american man named Reza Baluchi was rescated floating in a big bubble, in front of the coasts of Florida in the Unated States. This man is a marathon runner who planned to crosss the ocean from Florida to the Bermudas islands, running inside a huge floatable buble. He was about seventy nautical miles to the east of St. Augustine when he activated his personal locating bacon, because he was exhausted. A Coast Guard HC-130 airplane and MH-60 helicopter, along with the vessel Maersk Montana, were sent to rescue this marathon man. After that they took him to the Coast Guard Air Station, where his medical condition was evaluated. He didn’t have any injuries.

Well, obviously this breaking new does not affect me, or my community. But, I thought it was an interest new, because although he didn’t make it, this man’s attitude it’s very special and I wish I was that brave to do whatever I dream.

Normally, I try to avoid watching T.V.’s news, because there are always just bad ones and some of the news make me sad. I would like to watch/hear/read about more good news, news about animals, people improving their lifes conditions, I don’t now, that kind of news.

My future Job

Hello everyone!

Today I’m going to write about what I think It could be my future job. As you must know, I`m studying Forestry nowadays, but since I started to study this, I haven’t had a clear view of what I will do in the future as a forester. In this short time, I have felt interested mainly in the conservation part of forestry, especially when we have dedicated time to make studies in a forest, like counting how many trees are, calculating the density measure the quality of the soil and many others. So, I would like to take a job where I would have to travel around this beautiful country and make studies in the different forests that Chile has.  If I had to choose, there are a lot of aspects I would consider, like: how many hours I would work by day, because I want to have time for me and I would hate to be working all day; the conditions of the job and the money I would earn, I hate to be worried for the money, but sadly, without money you can´t survive in this world. I mean, I don´t want to be rich, and I know that money doesn’t buy happiness; I just want to earn enough money to live without serious problems. Right now, my weakness is that I’m a little bit lazy and distracted, but if I really enjoy my future job, I will be the best doing it.

My best friend! :)

Hello guys!

My today’s post It’s very special and difficult to do it, because I’m gonna write about my best friend. I think I don’t have many friends as other people do, maybe I have six or seven friends, no more than that, and just three of them are my “best friends”, because “friend” It’s a very strong word that for me, has a lot of meanings and the person that I consider my friend has to be loyal, funny, has to be there for me at good or specially bad times and, I don’t know, just be there for me.

In my small group of friends, there is one that stands out the rest, her name It’s Valeria Cañas, she’s about my age and I met her during my school time, when I joined to Colegio Rafael Eyzaguirre in 3^rd grade of Primary School. That was in 2003, so we have been friends for eleven years. Although, school time It’s now over, our relationship continues exactly as always. I consider her the sister I never had and every time I hang out with her, there is a lot of fun and laughs, we don’t even have to speak; so, there is a lot of great memories to tell. For some reason, I can’t clearly remember one now to write it here, it must be because mainly of them were very funny. One time, we were in math class and the teacher was a very big and tall woman, and by accident she crushed Valeria’s feet, and she is a very small girl. I worried first but after that, It was hilarious.

My first concert! lml

In this post, I`m gonna write about my first concert ever, the Queen’s concert in November, 2008. It was held at Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo. One of the things I enjoy the most, It’s listening to music. However, I haven’t gone to many concerts in my life. But nowadays, going to concerts is one of my favorite things to do. That one, was a very special concert, because I went with my uncle Marco, who was the one that introduced me into this kind of music. Since I have memory, I have listen to Queen’s songs, so I was very excited with the idea of watching them live. I remember that, the first 30 minutes of the concert, I didn’t have a great time, due to I was a little bit tired; I was being smashed against a metal bars because It was full of people and they were playing songs that I didn’t know. But later, I started to sing all the song, I began to jump and I felt very enthusiastic. It was a great feeling. One of the best moments of the concert was when they remembered the deceased vocalist Freddie Mercury, singing the song “Love of my Life”. It was a very emotional moment.

My favorite movie! :D

Hello guys, today I’m gonna write about my favorite movie.

I don’t actually have a favorite movie, but one of the movies I like the most It’s the Back to the Future saga, but for this post I will write just about the first one . The movies were directed by Robert Zemeckis and the principal actors were Michael  J. Fox, as Marty McFly; and Christopher Lloyd, as Emmet “Doc” Brown. Marty was the typical teenager of the 80’s that likes the Rock music, skateboarding and that is very lazy. He used to wear Converse sneackers and a red jacket. And Doc Brown was a scientist who invented the time machine with a DeLorean. He had a dog named “Einstein” in 1985, and other named “Copernico” in 1955 (in the movie, 1985 is the present). He used to wear a lab coat and he was a little bit crazy, but he was brilliant.

The plot of the movie is that Doc invented this time machine and he wanted to go 30 years to the future, but he was murdered. So, by accident, Marty went 30 years to the past and to go back to the future, he needed the help of the Doc of 1955. At the same time, Marty’s mother fell in love with him and endangered his life. The story took place in a invented town named Hill Valley.

The part I like the most is when Marty played the song “Johnny B. Goode”, by Chuck Berry and he got crazy doing a guitar solo.

I like this movie because It is relationed with a lot of things that I like, for example the music, the clothes or the parodies. Besides, I feel identify with Fox’s character and I really would like to travel in time, if someday It is possible. I wouldn't change anything of this movie, because I like it in that way.

Well, I hope if you hadn’t watch this movie, you do it soon, because It’s awesome.

Around the world

Well, like many people, I would like to visit as many places as my pocket and my youth allow me. But unfortunately, you can't have it all. 

I've always wanted to travel to Europe, mainly for its life conditions. One of the places that have interested me the most is Switzerland. Actually, I would like to live in that country.

I know that the greatest tennis player of all time, Roger Federer was born there, specifically in Basel.

I like that place because of its beautiful landscape, for example, the swiss Alps are one of the most spectacular mountains in the world.

Hello guys

My name is Felipe Orellana, but I prefer to use my second last name: Roa. I was born on February 4th, 1995. I'm nineteen years old and as you must know, I'm stuying Forestry at the Universidad de Chile.

I live in the beautiful town named San José de Maipo with my grandma and my two uncles, because my mother died when I was seven. I don't have any siblings and my family is a very little one.

I really enjoy practicing basketball, voleyball, tennis or ping-pong with my friends. I don't have much time now to hang out with my best friends or go to parties (Although I am not really the kind of guy that goes to parties jajaja) Some of my hobbies are: listening to music, cycling, skiing (I love skiing so much!!), read books and play videogames, but to be with my family and friends is priceless to me and those are the things I enjoy the most.

Semester 2 Lever 4

The Blog o.O

Hello hello, I think this is going to be my last post.

Today I will write about: THE BLOG!!

Well, to me, to write it  is not so simple, because It’s hard to me to express the ideas that are in my mind, what I think about me, the music, my feelings about Forestry, and all the things I had wrote about. But writing things in English is much more difficult. In general, I think that my writing skills have improved through this term. I liked mostly of the topic chosen to write about, specially the one with the favorite music and movie. Other topics I would like to write about in the future, could be books, sports, funny anecdotes, vacations.

Going back to my writing skills, I would like to add a lot more of words to my vocabulary, because sometimes I have to use the same words more than once. But in my opinion, my grammar is very good. It has been an interesting experience to write each week in this blog, and share different opinions with my classmates. The blog has been useful to know them better too.

My favourite subject

Welcome to my blog, partners.

My post for today is about my favourite subject.

Actually, I had never thought about having a favourite subject,b ut I would say that is “CICBAE”, Its complete name is: “Characterization and Interaction of biotic and abiotic components of the ecosystem” A very long name, don’t you think?

Althought it’s a very difficult subject to me, I think it is my favourite, because we do a lot of experiments in the laboratory, as observe microscopically plants, to know, why they are green, or what are the origin of the plants or things like that. Every Thursday its the lab day.

Another thing I like about CICBAE, Is that we study all the components of the ecosystem, nt just the tres and plants. We have to study, the great landscapes of the Earth, like the Cordillera de los Andes or the salt flats.

We also will have the possibility, to go to places like Frutillar, Pantanillos, to aplicate what we are learning on terrain.

The main contents we had seen, is the origins of vascular plants, fungi, rocks, the weather and many others.

My future

Hello Guys! This is my first post in almost two months, can you believe it?

Today I´m gonna write about my future.

Well, this is my first year studying Forestry, and I don´t even know if i`ll keep studying this. But, I hope that my will and my brain help me to continue. I don`t know exactly what kind of things does a forester, but obviously, in the future I would like to take a major. Because, being a student of the Universidad de Chile, isn’t enough to get a job. With a major, I would have the possibility to study abroad and i would have more chances of get a job.

First of all, I would like to work as a forester, or something related to what i am studying, I would like to work outdoors and do fieldwork, maybe travelling in Chile and abroad, but without losing contact.

At the moment of choosing a job, I would consider many aspects, like how much am I gonna earn, I never worry about the money, but without it you can`t live, so you have to consider that. I would consider too, how many days I would work in a week, I don`t know, things like that. The important thing is to work in something i love to do.

If today, I would have a job interview, I would say that my strenghts are: If I like what Ido, I will dedicate a lot of time to do it, and I will put a lot of endeavor to do. My weaknesses would be, that I am a little slack and distracted.

My post for today it’s about a photograph that I like very much!

Here is the photo: 

This is a photograph taken by my uncle Marco, who works as a ski instructor in the winter. It was taken in the winter of 2009, at the Center of Ski Lagunillas. I like this photo very much, because it shows a very beautiful landscape of a sunset. The color of the sky at that time of the day it’s amazing and the contrast with the white of the snow makes this photo magical. Since I was 7 years old, every winter, I like to go to ski in Lagunillas. As you must be imagine, my favourite season of the year is the winter, jajajaja. I don’t know, but every time I look this photo, it makes me feel happy or quite.

Environmental Issues

Hello again guys!

Today, I will write about a very interesting topic nowadays. The Alto Maipo project, by the AES Gener enterprise.

This project is carry out in Cajon del Maipo, near to Santiago. It consists in the build of two hidroelectrics, Alfalfal II and Las Lajas, at the riverside of the river Maipo. These two hidroelectrics will contribute to the Central Interconnected System a maximum power of 531 MW.

In my opinion, all the benefits of this project are only for Santiago, there is no contributions for the people who live in Cajon del Maipo, like reduce taxes of light and water. There is only one thing, they do to say they help, they give a scholarship to the students that enter to College. Another factor of concern about this project, is the watercourse decrease of the estuaries El Volcán, Yeso and Colorado, causing the watercourse decrease of the river Maipo. Therefore, this will cause the desertification of more than a hundred thousand hectares of vegetation. The tourism will be affected too, because many sports are carry out in the river Maipo, like rafting or kayak, will disappear, because the watercurse will not be enough to perform these activities.

Well this is one side of the project, but it also has advantages. It will give to the community many jobs.

I think this project could be executing respecting the environment, getting benefits of nature too and helping to the comunity, but without cause any damage to the only thing that keep us alive.

Correction

I´ll talk about  the best concert of my life.

Two years ago, I went  to the festival called “The battle for Santiago” at the Bicentennial Stadium of La Florida,There was three bands in this festival , the mars volta, suicidal tendencies, and rage against the machine. And I like it  because of the lyrics and you  felt really good. I  listened to Mars Volta for thirty minutes  and my brother refused to continue because we were  so far away of the scenery. At  that moment,  I looked for a way to go to the VIP area  and we jumped a  gate and saw RATM so close, in  that moment I was very drunk and I   enjoyed very much that time, the show was incredible and it was dedicated to Victor Jara and Roberto Bolaño.

Hello Again Guys!

Today I´ll write about one of my favorites film. Actually is a trilogy, its name is Back to the Future, developed between 1985 and 1990.

This film was directed by Robert Zemeckis, written by Zemeckis and Bob Gale and produced by Steven Spielberg.  This production tells the story of a young named Marty McFly, interpreted by Michael J. Fox, who has a very special friend, a Doctor named Emmet Brown, interpreted by Christopher Lloyd. This Doctor created a Time Machine to explore all the ages of the humanity. For many reasons, when they travel in time, they have a lot of troubles, because of the changes that cause them, like create a parallel reality or endanger their own existence. Other problem they have, it’s when Marty’s mother “fall in love” with her own son.

I like very much this film, because all the troubles they have in the development of the story and the way they face them. All the situations that can happen if sometime, the travel in time it’s possible are awesome and dangerous. Other reason is the reference to famous people of the time, like Chuck Berry, Michael Jackson, Ronald Reagan; and the way the director used famous trademarks as Pepsi and Nike. Another fact very interesting of this film is the clothing, Marty used the typical Converse sneakers and the red jacket of the 80’s; after, in the 50’s he used black shoes, a shirt and a jacket.

An interesting website

Hello once more

Today I’m gonna write about a very useful website, www.forestall.uchile.cl

Since I began to study Forestry, each day of my life I like to enter to this website and discovery what’s new in my field. This page is very interactive, because use the green color and captures your attention with images , and it has videos and photos related to Forestry that you can watch. At the top of the page, there is the name and the logo of Universidad de Chile, and the different menus that you can access, like academics or students.

This page also has a lot of publications of experts about environment problems or the use of wood; this articles, keep me informed about the national and international reality.

I really recommend occasionally to take a look of this, so if you have the time, you should do it!
